A.
HWAWOODANG products are manufactured at HWAWOODANG’s seafood production facilities located in Gunsan, Jeonbuk State. Each process, from ingredient preparation to mixing, cooking or processing, and packaging, is managed according to the characteristics of each product.
However, the actual manufacturer and location may vary by product, so please check the manufacturer and address listed on the packaging of the product you purchase.
A.
Based on HACCP certification, HWAWOODANG manages potential hazards throughout production, including raw material receiving, storage, preprocessing, manufacturing, and packaging. HACCP is a food safety management system that analyzes potential hazards from raw materials through manufacturing, processing, and distribution, and systematically controls critical management points.
However, HACCP certification status and scope may vary by manufacturing facility and item, so please refer to the product packaging and product detail page for the most accurate certification information for each item.
A.
Not all ingredients in every product are Korean. HWAWOODANG actively uses Korean and Gunsan-area seafood, but imported ingredients may be used depending on the product type and ingredient supply conditions.
For example, the origins of squid, webfoot octopus, skate, spices, or some vegetables may vary by product. Please always check the ingredient list and country-of-origin labeling on each product package for accurate information.
A.
HWAWOODANG applies in-house developed sauces designed to complement the texture and flavor of each seafood product. Stir-fried dishes use seasonings that are spicy and rich in umami, while stews and braised dishes use sauces that harmonize with the flavors of seafood and vegetables.
Exact sauce ingredients and allergens vary by product. Since ingredients related to allergies, such as soy sauce, wheat, soybean, oyster sauce, and chili oil, may be included, please check the product-specific labeling before consumption.
A.
Whether thawing is required depends on the cooking instructions for each product. Some stir-fried items are designed to be cooked directly from frozen, while some stews, braised dishes, or marinated crab products may need to be thawed before cooking or eating.
Leaving products at room temperature for a long time may affect ingredient quality or food safety. If no separate thawing method is listed on the package, thawing safely in the refrigerator is recommended. For the most accurate method, always follow the cooking and thawing instructions on the product packaging.
A.
It depends on the product. For some products, such as Whole Squid Seafood Stew and Nakgopsae, the seafood and vegetables release moisture during cooking and the included sauce is used, so the instructions state not to add additional water.
On the other hand, products with different broth concentrations or compositions may instruct you to add water or broth. Adjusting the amount of water on your own may change the product’s original seasoning balance and broth concentration, so please follow the cooking instructions listed on the package first.
A.
Yes. For stir-fried dishes, you can add vegetables such as onion, green onion, cabbage, perilla leaves, and bean sprouts according to your taste. For soups and stews, adding radish, green onion, bean sprouts, tofu, minari, crown daisy, and other ingredients can make the dish even more generous and flavorful.
However, if you add too many vegetables with high water content, the sauce may become diluted or the seasoning may taste weaker. It is best to cook the product first, then check the condition and add extra ingredients little by little.
A.
Stir-fried squid, stir-fried octopus, stir-fried webfoot octopus, stir-fried cuttlefish, and jjusam bulgogi can be enjoyed as they are as side dishes or dishes to pair with drinks. They can also be served over rice as rice bowls or mixed with boiled somyeon noodles.
With the remaining seasoning after cooking, you can add rice and stir-fry it to make fried rice. You may add seaweed flakes, sesame oil, sesame seeds, cheese, and other toppings to suit your taste, but since the product is already seasoned, it is best to taste it first before adding extra seasoning.
A.
Place the product components in a pot, add the included sauce, and bring it to a boil. The cooking method introduced in the catalog instructs you not to add any additional water. Once it begins to boil, reduce to medium heat and continue boiling for about 5–8 minutes.
Skimming off the foam during cooking can make the broth cleaner, and you may add vegetables such as green onion or minari according to your taste. Cooking time may vary depending on product specifications or changes in product composition, so please follow the instructions on the actual package as the final guideline.
A.
Frozen products should generally be stored frozen at -18°C or below. After purchase or delivery, please place the product in the freezer as quickly as possible before it thaws.
Refreezing a product after it has fully thawed may reduce the texture and quality of the seafood and may also affect food safety depending on storage conditions, so refreezing is not recommended. For refrigerated products or items with separate storage requirements, please follow the storage instructions listed on the product packaging.
A.
The shelf life varies depending on the product type, manufacturing method, packaging condition, and storage conditions, so it is difficult to provide one standard guideline for all products. Some frozen products are listed in sales materials as having a shelf life of 365 days from the manufacturing date, but this does not apply equally to every product.
For the exact shelf life of the product you purchased, please check the date separately marked on the packaging. Even if the product is still within its shelf life, it is safer to avoid consuming it if the packaging is damaged or if the required storage temperature has not been maintained.
A.
Different products may contain different allergens, such as soybean, wheat, shrimp, crab, squid, mackerel, and shellfish. Since ingredients such as soy sauce, oyster sauce, and flavored oils may also be used in the sauces, you should check not only the seafood ingredients but also the ingredients included in the sauce.
In addition, some products may be manufactured in the same facilities as products that use squid, pork, shrimp, crab, mackerel, and other ingredients. If you have food allergies or sensitivities, please be sure to check the “allergens” and “manufactured in the same facility” information on the package before deciding whether to consume the product.
A. Can children or older adults consume the products?
A.
The consumption method for marinated crab products may vary depending on the product’s manufacturing process and labeling. Some products are generally ready to eat, but because frozen conditions, thawing requirements, and manufacturing processes differ by product, the same consumption method should not be applied to all marinated crab products.
Please thaw the product safely under refrigeration and follow the consumption instructions listed on the package. After thawing, consume it as soon as possible, and avoid leaving it at room temperature for a long time or repeatedly refrigerating or refreezing food that has already been eaten from.
A.
Because these products use seafood as the main ingredient, you may notice the natural aroma of the raw materials. HWAWOODANG prepares ingredients by product and produces its items with signature sauces and vegetables so that the taste and flavor of the seafood can be brought out properly.
However, the smell may become stronger if the product is left at room temperature for too long during thawing or if an opened product is stored improperly. If you notice unusual signs such as a strong abnormal odor, swollen packaging, discoloration, or mucus formation, do not consume the product and contact customer service.
A.
It is important for frozen products to remain frozen during delivery. If the surface of the product is slightly soft immediately after delivery but there are still ice crystals inside and the product remains sufficiently cold, you may place it in the freezer right away. However, if it has completely thawed, feels lukewarm, or the contents have leaked, it is best not to consume it immediately or refreeze it.
If you suspect damaged packaging, severe thawing, leakage, or spoilage, please take photos showing the condition of the product and delivery box, as well as the expiration date, then contact the place of purchase or customer service. Specific exchange or refund procedures will follow the policy of the seller from whom you purchased the product.
